I'm loving the book - I'm only about 1/2 way through - but I'm savoring it. I could have finished by now - it's not difficult - but it's so enjoyable that I'm doling it out, I don't want it to end.I especially like there are additional pictures available (when online) but I would enjoy the book even without picture.
Note to author - you are incredibly brave - not just for going into the abandoned areas but for writing so intimately about the experiences.

Ruins of the Rising Sun Adventures in Abandoned Japan eBook Michael John Grist Reviews
This book was okay. I would have liked to see more pictures of each location after every chapter. I couldn't quite get into the way the author described the locations. He left a little to be desired. It was an interesting book and a quick read. The pictures that were included were very good.
This book turned out to be a great purchase. The author's experiences and insights, combined with his witty banter and breathtaking pictures make this an awesome addition to my collection. I even convinced my husband to get a copy for his . Love it!
man i can't say enough good things about this story, the pictures the artist paints with words...
and its worth having a look at his book on japan, the photo's alone make it worth the read.
[Into the Ruins Adventures in Abandoned Japan] by [Michael John Grist] give new insight as to why his fiction novels are so creative and dark. I love looking at pictures and knowing the stories of abandoned places and [Grist] in this book takes you with him on his adventures with some pretty amazing photography to go along with the narrative. I highly recommend this book as well as his website.
As an eager enthusiast of industrial heritage and ruins, it's always interesting to discover a new addition to the few books available on the topic, in particular a book focusing on Japanese industrial and commercial heritage ruins. I visited several of the sites illustrated in Michael John Grist's new book, more than a decade ago, when they were still active commercial businesses. It is fascinating to see how the sites have evolved, or devolved, with nature and decay over-taking the buildings where people once worked and visited.
The narrative is well written by a researcher and author who is passionately interested in his subject. The accompanying photos, some of ruins which have since disappeared in the few short years since he visited the sites, are an excellent visual display of the atmosphere found at many ruins. The author's choice, or unfortunate chance, of visiting sites when the weather is overcast, adds to the atmosphere of desolation of abandonment and decay. As such it adds to the sense of adventure and humour found through the book.
A wonderful read, that I have already recommended to others interested in Japan and industrial heritage and ruins.
I've always been intrigued by ruins and abandoned places. I'm also interested in Japan. Together, how could this book miss? I really enjoyed reading about both the places and the history and even the biographical content was good reading. The author seems like someone I'd love to meet and talk to at length. I would like to have seen more photos but the links lessen the blow a little. The author is also a talented photographer. I've bookmarked his website and have recommended both it and the book to others.
I would prefer a printed book version to have nice large photos rather than having to tap and enlarge the photos - in the sample "Look Inside" the photos seemed much bigger than the actual ones in format. But I did enjoy reading of the authors adventures and looking at the photos he took once I zoomed in and enlarged them. Also there are only Japanese or French books on Haikyo, so this one was the only one I could find in English - Thankyou to the author.
I'm loving the book - I'm only about 1/2 way through - but I'm savoring it. I could have finished by now - it's not difficult - but it's so enjoyable that I'm doling it out, I don't want it to end.
I especially like there are additional pictures available (when online) but I would enjoy the book even without picture.
Note to author - you are incredibly brave - not just for going into the abandoned areas but for writing so intimately about the experiences.
